Let me tell you a story first |
| It wasn’t always whopping Rainbow Trout, monster Brown Trout, beautiful Brook Trout, stunning Tiger Trout, enormous Splake Trout and honking Lake Trout for me. I am sure that all of you are better fishermen now than I was when I started trout fishing. When I look back on it, I was a sorry excuse for a fisherman! |

When I first started trout fishing I’d go days, sometimes whole fishing trips, without catching a Rainbow trout. If I managed to catch one I was thrilled. It didn’t matter what the size was. I fumbled around different trout lakes without much success.
Here was my problem,I really didn’t know how to catch trout.
I didn’t know;
What trout fishing equipment to use?
What trout fishing lure or lures to use?
What trout fishing flies or fly patterns to use?
What trout fishing methods to use?
I needed trout fishing help in a big way.

I got my first Rainbow in 1966. My Dad dropped me off at a Rainbow lake on one of his work road trips. I fished that lake relentlessly for the whole day. Finally, near the end of the day I was rewarded with a beautiful Bow. I was stunned at the power and acrobatics that were performed by the 2 pound Rainbow. When I finally landed the fish I was even more stunned by its beauty. That was it. I was hooked. I got lucky that day but it was a long time before that feat was duplicated. That one success put me on an uneducated course of action that took many years of continued failure before I realized that I needed more than luck. That was when my trout fishing fortunes changed for the better. |

The Hard Part was Finding all the Information I Needed know…

In order to be successful at anything you have to get serious and learn. Then you have to put those lessons into practice. The problem was finding all the information that I needed to become successful. That was the hard part. I read books, asked questions, watched fishing shows.
I had to learn;
Trout fishing techniques.
Trout fishing tips.
Trout fishing secrets.
Trout fishing tactics.
Trout fishing methods.
The common themes were knowledge and action.. I became involved in a life long lesson, one that involved experimenting, trial and error and above all knowledge. In other words, I had to put into practice the knowledge I was learning and then perfect it to suit each situation.

Now I can honestly say it doesn’t matter whether it’s a new body of water or an old stomping ground, it’s not whether I catch, it’s how many and how big.
